And my vote goes to...

Do you really think you can make a difference by casting your vote?
Seriously, do you?

From what i have been taught and heard all these years, I desperately want to say YES, but frankly I can't.
I don't think many of us harbor that feeling either. May be that's what made a fellow blogger to comment that the educated middle class does want to vote. I don't know whether its true or not, but i certainly know that today's youth especially in the IT industry doesn't care for such time wasting matters. They don't care if its the BJP or the Congress or even the Communist Party that's ruling the centre.
I'm not blaming anyone here. I frankly don't believe in the political system existing in our country. Its so enigmatic, dark or fuzzy. It would have stood a chance had it been at least a bit transparent.
I think its this don't care attitude of the youth that forced the Jaago Re! Campaign. And i have to tell you it certainly appears to work.
So now, some how you have decided to vote, but here comes the next problem:
Whom to vote to?
I'm not even sure what this whom stands for. Is it the candidate or the party that we are talking about? What if the party you are voting for has really good ideals but the person is corrupt.. or what if its the reverse?
And another thing i found really disturbing in our political system is the educational status of most politicians. What good can they do if they don't have atleast basic education.
Ive heard my father talk about an old minster in Kerala educating the press that getting rain has nothing to do with deforestation and if it had any connection, then how come it rains in the Arabian Sea?
How come they get elected? And now a days even criminals that too even when under punishment are trying their luck in politics.
No wonder the youth is losing hope!
I know its the constitutional right for every citizen of India to be eligible to serve the country, but i think as good citizens its our duty to make sure such people doesn't get anywhere near holding a public office.
Anyway i have decided to vote, and this is the first election after i turned 18 and guess my first vote wont go in vain.

It's just not the youth. NDTV is having this show where they go to really remote villages and ask the people if they are voting or not. You won't believe that many village people are against voting saying that our politicians keep giving false promises.

Some villages were promised water and electricity and they haven't received it for the past five years inspite of voting. Our system is really corrupt. This turns off not just the youth but almost everyone. How can we vote to support such a system ? It's really disappointing. But I guess we still have to do it because it is our responsibility.

your dilemma is mine too dude. i know i don't want to vote for communalism (out goes BJP), Dynasty and corruption( out goes congress) disunity(out third front) stagnancy( bye bye CPM/BSP/SP) and definately not stupidity (so long TMC). so who does that leave? the independant candidtes who are just waiting to be purchased?
as we say in bengali, they are all different types of shit - goo-er epith ar opith

I dnt think it makes an iota of difference in whoever gets elected at present. Both are one and the same, and the common man's life goes on. Still, we want to vote because we like having that responsility on us.

Kunjal said...

yes surely we don't have much choices, read somewhere that this is a choice between worse or worsen.

You hit the bull's eye with this post..... I voted first in the last election and I in a way feel that who ever is going to be elected is not going to make a monumental difference and watching the leaders squabbling over issues doesnt do any good either but i have to say... your last quote was meaningful......

We have to do whatever small responsibility thats left at our end.......
nice one......lol

post more..... and hey i have written a few short stories in my blog, Could you read them and post your comments on them. thanks..
